Vasco da Gama is a club based in Rio, whose best days were in the 1950s, as can clearly be seen from this World Cup dream team.
Barbosa, in goal played in the ill-fated 1950 tournament, which finished in an agonizing second place for Brazil in front of 200,000 fans at the Maracana stadium. Captain that day was Augusto, at right back, alongside Danilo Alvim. Hilderaldo Bellini, on the other hand, was Brazil’s first captain to raise the Jules Rimet trophy in 1958, accompanied in that defence by Orlando.
So this is a solid defence with plenty of experience and 12 captaincy matches.
Pinga, from the 1954 tournament, and Dirceu from the unbeaten 1978 side provide plenty of goals from the midfield engine room. Chico will push on and form the link between midfield and the strikers. His 4 goals came in 1950, so his understanding with Ademir, whose 8 goals won him the golden boot in that tournament, will be a potent attacking force.
Roberto Dinamite, with 3 goals in 5 matches in Argentina 1978 will play up front together with the really class attacking weapon, which is Vava, the first man to score in 2 World Cup final matches; 1958 and 1962.
It is a strong team, with goals coming from a variety of sources, and the experience available in defence means this side will keep their shape and be unlikely to panic under pressure.
